Frequently Asked Questions

DNA FAQ - Kiss FAQ - Fingerprint FAQ

Do you keep my DNA on any database for storage?

Once your order is completed, all evidence is destroyed and discarded immediately after we send you the final product. We only keep a digital version in case you wish to get another copy made. This digital copy is kept for a 3 month period. After that all digital copies are deleted as well. We can always destroy any data right after completion of your sale as per your request.

How do you collect my DNA sample?

We use a simple foam buccal swab to collect your DNA. In our collection kit you will find a packaged buccal swab, simply remove it from the package and swab the inside of your cheek. All collection kits contain all the necessary material for you to collect a good sample. Also in every kit is a pre-paid return envelope, making the process very simple.

How does the process work?

Please visit our DNA Process section for a detailed explanation from start to finish.

Can someone dissect my DNA from the image on my shirt?

No. Only we know what sequence we used to magnify your DNA and we change the sequences regularly to further protect your identity, also it is a small sample so don’t worry about someone interpreting and dissecting your DNA.

Will I ever see the same DNA layout on someone else?

No. At Identity Apparel we guarantee that every shirt is the only one of its kind, as each person’s DNA will look a little different. Even though we do not use a large range of DNA bands the appearance of these bands will always look different from one customer to another.

How do I know that my garment was made from my DNA only?

We take great pride in the authenticity of every DNA garment. We use six-digit tracking numbers to help us identify each individual to their DNA sample, therefore the margin of error is very small.

When you say you only use the brightest bands what does that mean?

When we run your DNA through the gel and have the image of your DNA we remove the dark background. If bands were present that were faint they are removed as well. Removing these faint bands results in a more aesthetically pleasing garment because now only the largest bands are present.

What happens if my DNA is lost during shipping?

Instead of using names to correspond with you the customer during the DNA sample collection stage, we use a 6 number code. Therefore if anything is lost during shipment nobody will know who the DNA sample belonged too and we will simply send you another collection kit if this occurs.

How do I know that I am wearing my DNA and not another customers?

At Identity Apparel we understand the importance of this and that is why we kept everything in house. Our staff double check customer numbers throughout the process to make sure they have the right customer for the right sample. We removed a third party lab so that we reduce the number of people handling each sample and the number of shipping steps is reduced. We absolutely guarantee that your sample will be run and imprinted onto your selected garment.

How much of my DNA can I customize?

It is completely customizable, you choose the color from a wide variety of options that we offer. Along with this, you can add a graphic to go along with your imprint. Each design comes with two colorways, and you can play around with many in-depth characteristics of your unique DNA imprint.

Can I put more than one DNA on a single garment?

We are constantly coming up with more ways to enhance the end-user customizability. We are thinking of designs that could incorporate multiple DNA imprints. If you have any special requests, please send us an e-mail at customer@identityapparel.com and we will try to accommodate your request. We are open to new and creative concepts to apply to our unique product lines.

We use many suppliers for our different product lines. Our primary supplier for the majority of our garments is American Apparel. For our identityearth we use companies such as Jericho (Bamboo) and Alternative Apparel (100% Pima Cotton).
